The Church as I see it

(By Humble Williams)

Give me that old time religion
Give me that old time religion
Give me that old time religion
It’s good enough for me.

It was good for Paul and Silas
It was good for Mary and Martha
It was good for the early Christians
It’s good enough for me.

Time changes everything – but not a covenanted deal, or command from God.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Gospel of salvation to mankind. It is a pathfinder. A solution provider. A direct instruction to do the right thing in order to achieve a desired result.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ does not require reformation or subtraction of some parts of it. It is the certified and approved method for redeeming mankind from destruction.

Unfortunately, so much has gone wrong. We cannot hinge this on the axiom that time changes everything. We must rather look inward and consider that the human factor has changed everything – and this is very dangerous.

Hear what the Lord said in Revelations 22:18-19.

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Don’t add. Don’t subtract. It is a command.

My dear brothers and sisters, let us now face the fact –

Christianity is no longer what it was when the Lord Jesus Christ preached. Jesus Christ – the Pathfinder, the Solution Provider, the Way, the Truth and the Life, the Offer of God’s mercy Himself preached declared and practised a Gospel that’s completely opposite of what we see today.

What do we then say to this?

Before we answer this question, we must first find out where the wrong is coming from. A problem known is half solved.
In a time of revival, at every point, God makes everything about Christianity clear for us to understand.

In Nigeria, we had a revival immediately after the civil war. It happened in a miraculous way. We saw the mighty power of God come down. Like a flood,  the Holy Spirit came down on everyone that gave themselves to Jesus Christ.

One significant thing I know that happened to each and everyone of us then was that selfish and personal ambitions disappeared from us. Our central focus was the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This Biblical truth about the second coming of the Lord entirely controlled our behaviour, our spoken words, our life style and actions.

Like with the apostles, speaking in tongues was normal, as empowered by the Holy Spirit, not the vain babbling we see today.

Now pastors teach people how to speak in tongues. It is no longer the Holy Spirit doing it Himself, as it is in the Bible or in the time of revival.

They have fashioned several ways of making money in the Church and to teach their members how to make money by all means.

Some of these so called preachers encourage their members to take bribe and call it a blessing from God.

Their preaching is always on prosperity. Their main reason for becoming members of the Church is to acquire prosperity and miracles.

To lie and make money is no longer a sin. They fornicate, and are not worried about it. Riotous living is no longer a sin – do anything you like, and live the way you like. This does not conform to scripture.

The song, Give me that old time religion, is a song composed by born again Christians of our time. They saw the difference between the Gospel preached in the past and the one preached today. They chose the old time religion because it has not been contaminated or fiddled with by the propounders of satanic gospels.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ – the true Gospel, is the only Gospel that can help us make Heaven.

Let us find out the truth about Christianity. Christianity is the roadway, the path to salvation, the salvation of the human soul – not prosperity and miracle.

If your membership to a Church is not based on this truth or foundation, then you are not a Christian.

Now hear and hear very clearly what the Lord said about Christianity in Matthew 6:19-34.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

This scripture is enough to give you a clear picture of who you are – a Christian or an unbeliever.

Where do you belong?
